Retail Volunteer

More than 130 people volunteer for us in our 5 shops and their efforts make a huge difference! Our shops provide us with a large amount of funding for our services. So why not consider joining our team? It’s a great chance to gain new skills and meet new people.

Role Summary:

Retail Volunteers assist with the day to day running of our charity shops by sorting and selling donations, keeping our shops tidy and safe, greeting and assisting customers and helping to raise awareness of the charity and what we do.

Here are just a few ways you could get involved:

  • Serving customers
  • Sorting our donations and getting them ready for sale
  • Window dressing
  • Do you have a particular area of interest? – share your knowledge with our shops


Our shops are open from 9.30am-4.30pm Monday-Saturday (Hexham Store and Furniture Shop open Sunday). Typically, our volunteers cover either a morning or an afternoon shift (approx 4 hours).


We have five shops:

  • Hexham Store
  • Hexham Bookshop
  • Furniture Shop
  • Prudhoe
  • Ponteland

Who We Are Looking For:

We are looking for people from all walks of life, be it young person looking to enhance their knowledge, a retired person who wants to give a little of their time and socialise with others.  We’re also keen to help people looking to get in to a structured routine in preparation for their future career.  Above all we are looking for people who enjoy meeting new people, who like to have fun and can engage with customers. 

Training and Support:

You will be supported by the Shop Manager and the Retail Operations Manager during your time with us. We will provide you with an induction on your first shift, ongoing training and regular updates.
